The Nelson Dilipkumar sequel, released October 15, is now the fourth Tamil film of 2026 to cross the mark — powered as much by overseas screens as by Tamil Nadu.

Some stars open movies. Rajinikanth opens record books.
Jailer 2, which reached theaters worldwide on October 15, has crossed Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office in just two days, according to Sacnilk. The tracker’s running tally puts the film at Rs 209.10 crore worldwide, built from Rs 95.30 crore net in India and Rs 97 crore from overseas markets. Sacnilk’s news report on October 16 notes the milestone makes it the fourth Tamil film of 2026 to pass Rs 200 crore worldwide — a pace that turns a strong opening into an event.
The shape of that money is the real story. Overseas earnings are nearly level with the domestic total, a reminder that a Rajinikanth release is no longer a regional play with international garnish. It is a global launch, day and date, with diaspora audiences arriving at the same speed as Chennai.
Day one set the template. According to Sacnilk figures reported by Filmibeat, the film collected Rs 59.70 crore net in India on Thursday, October 15, for a worldwide gross of Rs 125.25 crore, including Rs 55 crore overseas. The Tamil version did the heavy lifting at home, with Rs 43.35 crore net and a reported 70.8% occupancy across tracked shows, per Filmibeat’s account of Sacnilk data. The Telugu version added Rs 12.50 crore net, the Hindi version Rs 3.50 crore, and the Kannada version Rs 35 lakh.
On day two, Friday, October 16, Sacnilk’s language breakdown shows the film holding rather than collapsing — often the more telling test for a star vehicle. The Tamil version added Rs 25.25 crore net, the Telugu version Rs 7.25 crore, the Hindi version Rs 2.75 crore and the Kannada version Rs 35 lakh. Front-loaded fan business is expected for a film like this; a second day at that level suggests families and repeat viewers are joining the first-day faithful.
The casting around the star helps explain the pull. The film is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, per Filmibeat. Rajinikanth returns as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the role he originated in the 2023 Jailer, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik also returning. New faces include S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan, with cameos reported by Filmibeat from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi, Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Vinayakan. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music.
A note of discipline is warranted. Sacnilk cautions that its figures are compiled from multiple sources and its own research and can differ from producer figures, so these totals should be read as tracked estimates, not audited receipts.
Even with that caution, the direction is unmistakable. A sequel that clears Rs 200 crore before its first weekend ends has answered the opening-day question: whether the Jailer phenomenon of 2023 was a one-off. It was not. The next test is Saturday and Sunday — whether it can convert a thunderous start into a sustained run. On two days’ evidence, do not bet against the Tiger.
