Chris Pratt Says Star-Lord Will Return to MCU

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 credits promised it — and Pratt now says Marvel has taken “hard action” to make good on it.

“The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” Marvel put that promise on screen at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — and Chris Pratt now says the studio is actively keeping it. Speaking on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Pratt said there have been both ongoing conversations and “hard action” taken to make good on that promise, per Variety reporting syndicated via Just Jared’s coverage of the interview.

“I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” Pratt said, per that reporting. “So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”

No date, no project — on purpose

Pratt gave no project and no timing, and that restraint is itself the news value here: this is a confirmation of intent from the actor and, by his account, of concrete steps inside Marvel Studios — not a casting announcement. He has not been announced for Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18, 2026, per the same reporting, and nothing in his comments places Star-Lord in it. Anyone selling you a Doomsday appearance today is selling speculation.

What is on the record is Pratt’s own ambition for the character. Months earlier, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said he had pitched Feige his own strong vision for Quill’s return and wants to help set up the next decade of Marvel storytelling, per Variety’s earlier reporting carried in the same coverage. Pratt has played Quill across six films, from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy through Vol. 3, per Just Jared.

Context matters for where a returned Star-Lord would even fit. Vol. 3 ended with Quill back on Earth, reconnecting with his grandfather, while a new Guardians lineup carried on without him. A solo return, an Earth-bound story, or a late-arriving Avengers role are all structurally possible — which is exactly why Marvel can afford to keep the promise vague while the Multiverse Saga closes out.

The 247 Take — Pratt’s wording does the heavy lifting: “hard action” is not how actors describe a someday idea. Star-Lord is coming back — the only real question Marvel is still protecting is whether the return is a headline or a surprise, and they will guard that answer until the last possible second.
