Clear your Wednesday night, HGTV fans: the Botched Homes finale arrives October 21 at 10 p.m. ET, and Season 1 is going out with saunas — plural. Episode 8, “A Tale of Two Saunas,” closes the show’s first run, per HGTV’s schedule listings via EntertainmentNow and TVmaze.
Per the episode description, Charlie Kawas and co-host Courtney Ibars transform a ’90s nightmare bathroom into a modern dream spa, design a home office that doubles as a swanky speakeasy, and — in a second home — turn a basement that looks like a crime scene into a personalized wellness center. Two saunas, one speakeasy and a crime-scene basement: this show has never once done anything by halves.
Why this finale hits different
Regular viewers know this season was never just about bad renovations. Kawas filmed the season while undergoing chemotherapy after a testicular cancer diagnosis, and announced on September 22 that he is officially in remission — a storyline CelebnMusic247 has followed since the show’s first weeks.
And the finale carries a personal beat alongside the reveals. Asked by TV Insider to tease the eighth episode, Kawas called it probably one of his favorite renovations of the whole season — a huge transformation — and said he got to share some really exciting news with his family in it. “After all the hardship and tough stuff that we went through, we got to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he told TV Insider. He did not spoil the news itself, so neither will we.
The season behind this finale has been a tour of renovation horrors, per Memorable TV’s finale preview: a DIY kitchen with no hot water and dangerous wiring in the premiere, rats and mold in “Ratastrophe,” a college frat house conversion in “Welcome to the Swamp,” and last week’s moisture-wrecked mid-century rescue in “Rhinestone Throne.” Eight hour-long episodes, all set in South Florida, all built around one promise: no botched job is final.
Season 2 has not been confirmed — that status remains unconfirmed as of today — so Wednesday’s finale is both a celebration and an audition. Tune in at 10 p.m. ET on HGTV and root for the renewal. Charlie has earned it, and then some.
