RECAP — The first charter of Below Deck Season 13 ended the way first charters on this show always threaten to: with the guests reviewing the crew. Primary Christina Haisfield thanked everyone for their “great energy,” then delivered the knife, per the episode: it was clear this crew had “never worked together before.” Fraser Olender returned the compliment, branding her a “shady bitch.” She wasn’t shady, Fraser — she was just the first person on board willing to say it out loud. The Haisfields still left $25,000 — $2,083 a head — the food was clearly carrying this charter.
The interior civil war is already the season’s main event. A beach picnic — private cove, cliffs Fraser compared to Jurassic Park — fizzled when he and Rainbeau de Roos set the lunch table down one side only, guests facing the view instead of each other. The real friction ran between Rainbeau and stew Rosa Simms-Preston, a former chief stew who hates taking please-and-thank-you-free orders from a younger second. Fraser relayed the complaint (“I’ve had a crier today”), and Rainbeau marched straight to Rosa: “Did I do something to piss you off?” Direct worked. Rosa admitted she felt patronized, Rainbeau opened up about last season’s trauma, apologized, and they hugged it out — then Rosa stood her ground over gloves for the cutlery: “That’s my standard.”
Service kept quietly dropping the ball. The swim-platform guests asked for chips and dip; Fraser wouldn’t serve them in the sun and promised them on standby — and the chips never materialized. Kaylee spent the better part of 40 minutes, with an assist from chef Moe Vilomar, producing a few glasses of green juice, and served food on chargers — the plate you put plates on. What saved the charter was Moe’s galley: tomato and burrata salad, lamb chops with carrot purée, a tiramisu the guests applauded. Moe also moonlights as the boat’s dating service. “The pool is too young for me,” he explained. “If I can’t swim, I’ll make sure everybody is swimming.”
The deck team had its own near-disaster. Undocking Azul V against whirlpool currents, bosun Alex Wright went out short-handed — just himself and deckhand Jessenia Stidger wrestling an anchor chain in a coffin-sized locker — while Captain Kerry Titheradge fumed at Alex’s radio silence. Kerry fixed it in 30 seconds — then discovered the anchor ball still up. His debrief was pointed: communicate, and watch deckhand Matt Fitzpatrick-Buck, whose confidence keeps tipping into arrogance — he’d snatched the pen from Alex’s hand during the docking briefing. The docking itself was flawless.
Then came the crew night out, and Moe’s matchmaking paid off everywhere. After a temple stop at Wat Khao Rang, Alex and Jessenia were kissing in the tuk-tuk, and Kaylee and Matt followed suit, retiring to a guest cabin with Fraser’s blessing: “Put a sheet on there.” Kaylee promptly declared the pair exclusive for six weeks; Matt’s reply, “I have that effect on women,” should be printed on a warning label, next to his $80,000 crypto-loss confession. The guests’ talent-show “cabaret” had previewed his range: Rainbeau’s possessed yodeling, and Matt pulling a condom through his nose and out his mouth. Rosa got the night’s only sad storyline: watching Rainbeau flirt with her crush, James Bishop, riding back alone with him in silence, then crying in her cabin. Somebody hug Rosa, and somebody hide Matt’s trading app before the tip meeting.
