CelebnMusic247.com reports that YouTube decided to “terminate” aka suspend R.Kelly’s YouTube channels since he was found guilty.
A spokesperson for YouTube said in a statement:
We can confirm that we have terminated two channels linked to R. Kelly in accordance with our creator responsibility guidelines.
According to the company’s “creator responsibility guidelines,” YouTube can remove a content creator for “on- and/or off-platform behavior that we may consider to be inappropriate.”
The guidelines also say that a YouTube user can be penalized for “participating in abuse or violence, demonstrating cruelty or participating in fraudulent/deceptive behavior leading to real-world harm.”
YouTube head of legal Nicole Alston told Bloomberg:
Egregious actions committed by R. Kelly warrant penalties beyond standard enforcement measures due to a potential to cause widespread harm. Ultimately we are taking this action to protect our users similar to other platforms.
Kelly is also banned from ever using YouTube again, Alston added.
However, the singer’s music still appears on YouTube Music and other streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
CelebnMusic247.com previously reported that Kelly was convicted of nine counts including racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, bribery, sex trafficking, and violation of the Mann Act last week.
The 54-year-old is still facing separate charges in Illinois and Minnesota and is scheduled to be sentenced for his federal conviction next May.
