Kym Whitley Talks New Season of Raising Whitley!!!

Raising Whitley is back with another season on the OWN Network and our friends at 4UMF.com got the exclusive with Kym Whitley Talks New Season of Raising Whitley.

We had the pleasure of sitting with Kym Whitley at a press meet and greet to speak with the actress who opened up about her reality show, adopting her son back in 2011 and the feedback that she received about last season.

Originally, Whitley felt that because she was a real actress, reality TV was beneath but she developed an understanding of the genre during the taping of “Raising Whitley.”

She decided to step into the world of reality television to elevate the platform and show Black women in a different light. She also wanted to show people that everybody makes mistakes including her and she’s willing to learn and hopes others can learn from her mistakes, too.

“You don’t go to a reality show to be a different person,”

Whitley said:

“I am the same person on the show I am off.”

Whitley said one of the most positive and important piece of feedback she got from the first season was from an African woman who thanked her for talking about women of color adopting and putting a national spotlight on the issue because it is shamed upon in the woman’s culture where people would assume there is a problem.

The woman thanked Whitley for sharing her personal life on television and said she has friends who are now adopting.

The show is produced by Pilgrim Studios and executive produced by its star along with Craig Piligian and Melodie Calvert.
