Kevin Smith Working On Mallrats Sequel!!!

Twenty years after the release of his cult comedy hit, writer-director-star Kevin Smith Working On Mallrats Sequel.

Silent Bob aka Kevin Smith told a Tucson, Ariz., radio station Rock 102 Mornings with Shmonty & Carolina that he’s working on a script for a follow-up to his cult classic film Mallrats.  Smith has been busy mining his indie past for new material, with “Clerks III,” set to start filming this year. He wants to follow up on Mallrats.

“Yeah, that’s what we’re working on,” CelebNMusic247.com has learned via HR.

“It’s half a script right now and we’re pulling our loot together. We’ve got up until the beginning of 2016. By the time we get to May 2016, we’re going to be shooting.”

Mallrats helped to launch the careers of Shannen Doherty, Jeremy London and Jason Lee, only grossing  $2 million in theaters. But after finding an audience on video, the low-budget flick helped cement Smith as an up-an-coming auteur of quirky comedy.

The New Jersey-based geek, of course, also co-starred as his signature character, the aptly named pothead, Silent Bob.

The movie, about a pair of slackers who head to the local mall after being dumped by their girlfriends, also helped launch the acting career of a then-virtually unknown Ben Affleck.

He told the radio show:

“Lately I’ve been doing this thing where I’m like, ‘Do you want to do what’s good for your career or do you just want to have fun?’ “

“Nobody’s clamoring for a ‘Mallrats’ sequel, but I would love to make one. It’s been like 20 years.”
