Midway through her Hollywood Bowl run, Miley told the crowd about the night she asked her late godmother for a sign — and what happened next.

Miley Cyrus gave her Hollywood Bowl crowd plenty of music this weekend — and one story nobody in that amphitheater is going to forget. According to TMZ, during her performance Miley opened up about grieving her godmother, Dolly Parton, who died of cancer in August, and described the night she asked Dolly for a sign that she was still near.
As Miley told it, per TMZ’s account, the moment happened at home, late at night, beside a mannequin Dolly had once given her as a Christmas gift. She lit a candle, set a flower next to it, and played a video of Dolly performing “Jolene.” Then she spoke out loud into the room: “If you’re here right now, flicker the lights.” According to Miley, the lights down the entire hallway immediately began to flicker.
The detail that turned a spooky story into something she clearly treasures: her fiancé, Maxx Morando, saw the lights flicker too — and per Miley’s telling, he had no idea what she had just asked for. She told the Bowl crowd she took real comfort from it, and that she can still feel Dolly’s guiding presence with her when she is on stage.
The supernatural detour was not the only unscripted moment of the night. Per the same report, Miley also clapped back — with a grin — at fans who had complained she skipped lyrics during her previous Bowl set, leaning into the criticism mid-song. Reaction to the Dolly story online has been split between fans who find it beautiful and skeptics who do not, but Miley does not appear interested in litigating it. She asked, the lights flickered, and that is enough for her.
Her two-night Bowl stand — October 16 and 18, both sold out, per her own posts — is the live launch of the Bass Persuades era, her tenth album. If the weekend proved anything, it is that the new era has room in it for ghosts, gratitude, and a godmother who apparently still answers. Some front rows came for a comeback; they left with a séance story they will be telling for years.
