Fleetwood Mac have been the subject of countless documentaries. This one is different: for the first time, the band is telling its own story, in its own words. Apple Original Films has announced Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, the first-ever fully authorized documentary on the band, making its global debut on Apple TV on Friday, January 29, 2027.
The film is directed by Frank Marshall — a five-time Academy Award nominee and recipient of the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award — and produced by The Kennedy/Marshall Company with White Horse Pictures. It brings together the voices, memories and perspectives of all five members of the classic lineup: Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

The title is the thesis. “The Chain” is the only song on Rumours credited to all five members, and Apple describes it as the embodiment of the band’s bond — a family forged by shared passion that held through everything. The premiere is timed to the 50th anniversary of Rumours, the Grammy-winning 1977 album that turned the band’s internal chaos into some of the most durable songs ever recorded.
Fleetwood Mac Documentary Details
Per the announcement, the documentary traces the five from their first meeting in 1974 through a 50-plus-year history of record-breaking albums and tours, using never-before-seen footage and exclusive new interviews. It digs into the question that has followed the band for decades: how a combination of artists this combustible kept producing singular work — more than 220 million records sold worldwide — and what kept pulling them back together when every pressure, inside and outside the band, pushed them apart.
The 247 Take — Every Fleetwood Mac film until now has been other people explaining the magic. Getting all five voices — including Christine McVie’s — inside one authorized film, from the director of The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, makes The Chain feel less like a documentary and more like a last word. January 29 cannot come fast enough.
