Doctors told Ozzy Osbourne the farewell concert could cost him everything he had left — his answer, according to his son Jack, was two words: “I’m doing it.”

Some farewells are staged for the cameras. Ozzy Osbourne‘s, it turns out, was staged against medical advice. Per Page Six, Jack Osbourne revealed on “Great Company with Jamie Laing” that doctors urged his father not to perform his final concert, warning that the energy the show would demand was more than his body could safely give.
“They basically were just saying like you’ve got so many things going on,” Jack explained, per Page Six. “We recommend you don’t do this because the energy expenditure.” Jack said his father had been dealing with multiple medical complications in the run-up to the show. “There was like something with his heart and he had some like artery stuff going on,” he said, adding that Ozzy had experienced “a ton of medical kind of mishaps leading up to the show,” per Page Six.
The doctors’ message, as Jack recalled it, was blunt: “They were just like energetically, this is going to … this is not good. This is not good. Like you don’t have it in you.” His father’s response was simpler: “I’m doing it,” per Page Six. Just 17 days later, Ozzy died at the age of 76.
Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Show
What he did with those 17 days in between is now part of rock history. Per Page Six, Ozzy performed his final show with his Black Sabbath bandmates Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward at the “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert in Birmingham, England, on July 5, 2025. The 10-hour show, hosted by Jason Momoa, featured performances from Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Jack Black, Steven Tyler and more, and for the closing set the singer was lifted onto the stage seated on a black throne, performing hits including “Crazy Train” and “Mama I’m Coming Home” while remaining seated throughout, per Page Six. “It’s so good to be on this stage… You have no idea how I feel,” he told the crowd, according to Planet Rock Radio via Page Six. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Jack was clear that heartbreak has not turned into anger. “But he wanted his journey. And so I can’t … I’m not angry at that,” he explained, per Page Six. “I think everyone wants to at least have some say in how they go. Obviously, deeply heartbroken that he’s gone but also he went the way he wanted to.”
That feeling runs through the family. Per Page Six, Jack’s reflections come as his mother, Sharon Osbourne, has also opened up about her final conversation with her husband of 43 years — waking her around 4:30 a.m. on the morning he died to ask, “Kiss me,” and then, “Hug me tight.” Ozzy died on July 22, 2025, and his death certificate listed cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease, per Page Six.
The 247 Take — Plenty of legends get a farewell tour. Ozzy Osbourne got a farewell he had to defy his own doctors to give — and that stubborn, seated, triumphant last set is exactly how the Prince of Darkness would have written his ending.
