Beyonce was electric … but she wasn’t hot enough to turn the lights off at the Super Bowl.

According to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, “there is no indication at all” that Sunday’s 34-minutepower outage that disrupted Super Bowl XLVII had anything to do with Beyonce’s sizzling halftime show.

According to Doug Thornton of SMG Management Company, which manages the Superdome, the halftime show was on a separate generator and was not drawing power from the stadium’s power sources. Thornton, speaking at a press conference with Goodell Monday morning, said the amperage actually went down during the halftime show because the lights had been turned down and that the lighting for the show came from a separate generator.

Authorities were still trying Monday to determine exactly what went wrong.

“The halftime show was run on 100% generated power,” Thornton said. “It was not on our power grid at all. … All we know is we had an interruption in service that occurred.”

“We’re going to get to the bottom of it,” Thornton added. “We know that the interruption in service … there was a piece of equipment that did it’s job. It sensed an abnormality in their substation and it shunted the power to the Superdome. We don’t know anything beyond that. So it’s premature at this point to say what it was or what caused it.”

While SMG and Entergy – the power company that supplies electricity to the Superdome – began their search for answers, the NFL tried it’s best on Monday to divert attention from the Super disruption.

Goodell called the blackout “an unfortunate incident,” while Eric Grubman, the NFL’s executive vice president of business ventures, insisted the blackout “looms actually pretty small in the grand scheme of things.”

Both insisted the power outage wouldn’t affect the chances of New Orleans to host another Super Bowl in the future, nor would it detract from what Goodell said “will be remembered as one of the greatest Super Bowl weeks.”
