Bad Bunny Wins Artist of the Year, Sweeps Seven

Benito never set foot in the room — he still won every single category he was up for.

Bad Bunny did not attend the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Thursday night in Miami. He did not need to. When the envelopes finished opening at the James L. Knight Center, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio had won seven awards — every one of the seven categories in which he was a finalist — and the night’s defining artist categories read like his résumé.

The full sweep: Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year, Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year (Male), Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year (Male), Latin Rhythm Artist of the Year (Solo) and Songwriter of the Year. Only Fuerza Regida left with more trophies, and their eight included a special Vanguard honor; among competitive artist categories, nobody touched him. His label, Rimas Entertainment, underlined the rout by winning three label-of-the-year categories of its own. And because he was not in the building, there was no speech, no photo op, no viral podium moment — the statement was the scoreboard itself.

Tour of the Year might be the most earned line on it. The Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour closed in August with two sold-out homecoming nights at San Juan’s Estadio Hiram Bithorn, where 70,000 fans watched him end the run where the album began. Pollstar reported the tour had already sold 3.1 million tickets and grossed $438.6 million before those final two shows were even counted — a stadium circuit built entirely outside the U.S. mainland, carried by an album sung in Spanish.

That album is why the Artist of the Year win lands as a coronation rather than a surprise. In February, Debí Tirar Más Fotos became the first Spanish-language album ever to win the Grammy for Album of the Year; a week later he headlined the Super Bowl LX halftime show at Levi’s Stadium, the first Latino solo artist to carry that stage with a set performed almost entirely in Spanish. Latin music’s biggest night on Thursday simply certified, in its own categories — songs, albums, touring, songwriting — what the rest of the industry spent 2026 conceding.

There is also a sequel angle: at this same show last year, Bad Bunny was the top winner with 11 awards and received the Billboard Top Latin Artist of the 21st Century honor. This year he arrived with a third of the finalist mentions and converted all of them. The field around him has never been stronger — música mexicana’s takeover is real, and Karol G’s four wins say the women’s game is loaded — but the ceiling of Latin music still has one name on it.

The 247 Take — Seven for seven, from an empty chair. Awards based on charts do not care about attendance, speeches or campaigns, and that is exactly why this sweep matters: measured purely on what the world streamed, bought, sang and showed up for, the biggest artist in Latin music in 2026 was the one who was not there. Whatever Benito does next, he does it as the back-to-back Artist of the Year — and the whole genre is chasing.
