Scarlet Witch’s Shadow Looms Over VisionQuest as Vision Confronts Wanda’s Death
Wanda Maximoff may be gone—but Vision apparently hasn’t forgotten the woman he loved.

The new Disney+ series will put Paul Bettany’s Vision back in the spotlight years after WandaVision, and showrunner Terry Matalas has revealed that Wanda’s death will absolutely be on Vision’s mind.
But before Scarlet Witch fans get TOO excited, there’s an important warning:
Matalas says he is NOT teasing Wanda’s return.
At least not yet.
Vision Will Have Feelings About Wanda’s Death
Speaking with TV Insider, Matalas revealed that Vision is still attempting to understand who—and what—he is.
The character possesses memories and emotions connected to his former life, but accessing them may not be easy.
According to Matalas, Vision will have a perspective on Wanda very early in the series, including feelings about her death.
That alone could make VisionQuest far more emotional than fans were expecting.
Remember, this isn’t exactly the same Vision who shared a life with Wanda.
The original Vision was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. The White Vision introduced in WandaVision was reconstructed using Vision’s original body before ultimately regaining access to his memories.
So he remembers Wanda.
But what does remembering someone mean when you’re still trying to understand whether you’re truly the person who loved them?
That’s where things get fascinating.
Vision Is Having an Identity Crisis
Years have reportedly passed since the events of WandaVision, and Vision hasn’t simply been flying around saving the world.
Instead, he’s apparently been spending time among humans while trying to understand what it actually means to be human.
Matalas describes the upcoming story as an identity crisis.
Vision is questioning what it means to be Vision now that his memories have returned but his existence has fundamentally changed.
And VisionQuest is reportedly going to take audiences both inside and outside Vision’s mind.
Part of the story will unfold within his internal mental space, while the rest takes place in the larger MCU.

Could memories of Wanda appear inside Vision’s consciousness?
Could we revisit moments from WandaVision?
Could Vision’s memories force him to confront the love, grief and trauma that shaped his former life?
Anything is possible—but one thing is certain:

Scarlet Witch Is Dead…Right?
Marvel has repeatedly told viewers that Wanda Maximoff died following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Agatha All Along further reinforced her death.
But we’re talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Death hasn’t exactly prevented characters from returning before.
Between magic, alternate realities, resurrection, time travel and multiversal variants, Marvel has plenty of storytelling tools available if the studio eventually wants Elizabeth Olsen back.
That’s why fans continue questioning whether Scarlet Witch’s story is REALLY finished.
VisionQuest Showrunner Warns Fans: Don’t Assume Wanda Is Returning
Here’s where Matalas is trying to manage expectations.
While discussing the conclusion of VisionQuest, he teased a major moment late in the season involving Bettany.
Matalas said the creative team knew there was a particular moment they wanted to reach, and Bettany ultimately came up with an exciting idea for how the scene should play out.
Sounds mysterious, right?
Naturally, Marvel fans could immediately start thinking:
WANDA?!
Not so fast.
Matalas specifically warned viewers that he wasn’t teasing Wanda with those comments.
That’s a pretty important distinction.
VisionQuest can explore Vision’s memories, feelings and grief surrounding Wanda without Elizabeth Olsen physically appearing.
But will Marvel really be able to resist bringing these two characters face-to-face again eventually?
That’s another question entirely.
Could VisionQuest Set Up Avengers: Doomsday?
The timing is certainly interesting.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives shortly after VisionQuest concludes, creating obvious speculation about whether events in the Disney+ series could connect to Marvel’s next massive theatrical event.
There have also been persistent rumors surrounding a possible Scarlet Witch appearance in Doomsday.
For now, those rumors remain exactly that—rumors.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed that Olsen is returning as Wanda for the movie based on the information presented here.
Still, VisionQuest putting Wanda’s death back into the conversation immediately before another enormous Avengers adventure certainly gives fans plenty to speculate about.

That’s heartbreaking.
Imagine possessing every memory of someone—their smile, their voice, your children, the life you created together—while questioning whether those emotions truly belong to you.
That’s a powerful story for Vision.
And if Marvel eventually decides to reunite Wanda and Vision?

For now, Matalas is telling fans not to interpret his mysterious finale tease as confirmation of Scarlet Witch’s return.
