Andy Cohen: Why Bravo Passed on RHONY OGs

Andy Cohen says Bravo watched the original RHONY women together on Ultimate Girls Trip and decided their arc had already found its perfect ending — so The Golden Life went to E! instead.

Why did Bravo let its most iconic New York women walk to another network? Andy Cohen finally walked through the decision in detail, and his answer is less about rejection and more about an ending he thinks the audience had already seen.

According to Reality Tea, reporting on Entertainment Now’s coverage of Cohen’s appearance on the Morally Corrupt podcast with host Rachel Lindsay, the show that became The Golden Life was pitched to Bravo — and Bravo passed. Lindsay asked the obvious question: why?

Cohen started with the history lesson. Bravo had once planned a spinoff called RHONY: Legacy, built around the original cast of The Real Housewives of New York City. Those plans unraveled after the network chose to reboot RHONY with a new cast instead. And Cohen did not dance around one name in that collapse.

“I will say, Jill was part of a big reason why ‘RHONY: Legacy’ didn’t happen and then, not to kick a woman when she’s down,” he said, referring to Jill Zarin.

The Girls Trip that became the finale

With Legacy off the table, Bravo made The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: RHONY Legacy instead — the St. Barts trip that reunited the classic cast one more time. In Cohen’s telling, that trip did something nobody quite planned. It closed the book.

“We really felt watching that show that it was kind of in a weird way a great kind of ender to that arc with that group,” Cohen said. “And that’s where we left it.”

Read that carefully, because it reframes the whole Golden Life story. Bravo did not pass because the women stopped mattering. Bravo passed because, in the network’s view, it had already aired their goodbye — a joyful, nostalgia-soaked trip that worked as a finale whether it was labeled one or not. Pitching a brand-new series after that ending felt, to the decision-makers, like reopening a closed chapter.

The women, of course, did not stay closed for long. The Golden Life premiered on E! in October 2026 with Luann de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, Ramona Singer, Dorinda Medley and Kelly Bensimon sharing the screen again — this time trading New York for a sunnier chapter, outside the Bravo house they helped build.

And Cohen, to his credit, is not playing bitter ex about it. On Andy Cohen Live on SiriusXM back in February 2026, he said he was looking forward to the show, adding: “You know what, I’m excited for them. I texted the ladies yesterday. I think it’s gonna be a great show.”

That tracks with the man who has spent two decades as both boss and friend to this cast. He can believe Bravo made the right call and still root for the women to land on their feet — ideally, in his telling, exactly where they have landed.

What happens next is the interesting part for fans. The rebooted RHONY continues on Bravo while the originals build a second act on E!, which means viewers get both New Yorks instead of choosing a side.

The 247 Take — Cohen’s explanation is the rare network decision that actually makes emotional sense: Ultimate Girls Trip gave the OGs a perfect curtain call, and Bravo refused to spoil it. Judging by The Golden Life’s premiere buzz, the women are proving an ending on one network is just a premiere on another.
