Amy Schumer Shares Swimsuit Photos From Family Trip

Amy Schumer is having the kind of fall break the rest of us put on vision boards. The comedian has been sharing photos from a family getaway to Turks and Caicos, where, per People, the family stayed at a beach resort — and she marked the trip the way she marks everything: publicly, warmly, and with a punchline nearby.

“Our family had the time of our lives at @beachesresorts in Turks and Caicos,” she wrote alongside the vacation photos, which include the swimsuit shots currently making the rounds. Her 7-year-old son, Gene, came along for the trip, and per her interview with People, the two of them even witnessed an impromptu beach wedding — which Schumer, being Schumer, photobombed.

Underwater is the new red carpet

The trip’s real headline, by her own telling, happened below the surface. Schumer posted underwater footage of herself scuba diving (https://www.instagram.com/p/Dev9ruYFqtp/) and thanked PADI for her recent certification: “Thank you @paditv for the incredible diving experience. Get certified if you can. It will change your life.”

She called diving a highlight of the trip in her People interview, describing exploring reefs and spotting fish, and she joked in a follow-up post that anyone scared of diving should remember “you have a better chance of a vending machine randomly falling on you as you walk by.” Her verdict on the whole experience: “Things are better wetter.”

Her framing, in her words

The vacation posts arrive nearly a year after Schumer addressed her weight loss on Instagram, where she corrected the record herself: “I didn’t lose 30lbs, I lost 50,” she wrote last December. Schumer, who has been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, has said she dropped the pounds to survive — not to look good — and that health framing is the one she keeps returning to.

That is also how she framed this trip. Looking back from the beach, she wrote: “Last year was easily the worst year of my life and this year is the best. Hang in there. You don’t know what’s coming next.”

The 247 Take — There is a version of this story that is only about swimsuit photos, and Schumer has spent a year politely refusing to let it be that story. In her telling, the headline is a diagnosis survived, a certification earned, a kid on a beach, and a wedding she wasn’t invited to but improved anyway. The photos are joyful because the year behind them wasn’t. That is not a glow-up narrative — that is a comeback with a scuba tank.
