This holiday Chris Hemsworth underwent a very physically demanding role for the Moby Dick inspired film In The Heart of the Sea.
On the coattails of his “[The industry] is set up to turn you into a complete narcissist,” Chris Hemsworth took the photo while filming the upcoming Ron Howard-directed adventure shipwreck drama In The Heart of the Sea, which opens December 11.
The Vacation actor withstood a gruelling diet of just 500 calories a day in preparation for his new movie In the Heart of the Sea.
To put that into perspective, a man of his physique is recommended to consume between 2,000 and 3,000 calories a day as part of a healthy lifestyle.
The film is based on an 1820 incident when a whaling crew were said to have been stranded at sea for 90 days after a sperm whale destroyed their ship. The film is based on a true story that inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick.
The 32-year-old actor plays crew member Owen Chase, writing on his Instagram:
“Just tried a new diet/training program called “Lost At Sea.”
