Cabin in the Woods Sequel Wanted By Studio!!!

Remember the Cabin in the Woods, the movie that should have been a breakout hit of 2010, for Drew Goddard got shelved during MGM’s financial difficulties, so Lionsgate stepped in to bring the film into theaters in 2011.

Well it been four years since the movie hit the big screen, but great news Goddard has revealed that the studio is interested in pursuing a sequel.

Yes, we’re talking a Cabin in the Woods sequel! How cool is that?

Anyways, what CelebNMusic247.com has learned via Drew Goddard is that during his press tour for The Martian which he adapted the script from Andy Weir’s novel – Goddard confirmed that Lionsgate approached him to do the sequel.

Here is what Goddard said to Den of Geek about CITW2:

“The funny part is, I don’t think we planned that movie to do a sequel, you know?”

Those of you who’ve seen the movie know that, while its ending doesn’t exactly seal the vault on any future stories, The Cabin in the Woods was set up as a one-shot.

Goddard addressed it:

“But that being said, the fun thing about Cabin is, the rules are pretty crazy. We get away with a lot of crazy stuff. So, I’m sure we could figure it out if we got inspired to. I know Joss and I both feel like we don’t want to tarnish what we did with the first one. With a sequel, we’d only do it if it made us laugh hard enough, I suppose.”

In the original film, co-written by Goddard and Joss Whedon, starred Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford; there’s been no mention of any returning cast members as of this writing. On the surface it appeared to be a conventional horror picture featuring a group of young adults having a raucous vacation in the woods before running afoul of some evildoers, but the meta commentary of The Cabin in the Woods ran much deeper … figuratively and literally. Horror movies are notorious for generating a string of sequels, so perhaps now it’s Cabin’s chance to do the same.

Perhaps a sequel could take place at a different setting but with a new twist to avoid the tropes horror sequels tend to fall victim to. As for now, Goddard and Whedon appear to be in more of a general idea stage than having anything concrete on paper:

“Yeah, we don’t know. There’s nothing in the hopper right now, but who knows? The way Joss and I work, we might wake up tomorrow and go, ‘let’s go do that,’ or whatever.”

Are you excited for a potential return to the world of The Cabin in the Woods?
