13 Things To Look Forward To at Oscars

224-13 Things To Look Forward To at Oscars-1

(CelebNMusic247-News) 13 Things To Look Forward To at Oscars

The big night for Hollywood’s A-listers is almost upon us and there have been so many monumental moments on Oscar night we thought it would be fitting to give you the top 13 things to look forward too.

From sour puss faces, disappointed no winners, fashion, faux pas, to stoned hosts like James Franco, Oscar never seems to amaze. However, tonight should be interesting.

From Jennifer Lawrence delighting hitting the wine with Bradley Cooper to Anne Hathaway thanking everyone who’s ever read Les Miserables, it could be an incredible night, so here’s what to look out for.

1.) Ben Affleck sticks it to the Academy: Best Picture winners who don’t win Best Director are rare (eight in total), but with bags full of other awards Ben looks likely to complete the feat with Argo, delivering the best possible response to those who left him off the Best Director shortlist.

2.) Anne Hathaway thanks the entirety of 19th Century France: Anne’s a betting certainty to win Best Supporting Actress, so the only real interest here is just how many people will be thanked for it and just how zany it will be. At the BAFTAs Les Miserables author Victor Hugo was given a heads up despite being dead for a century.

3.) The birthday girl breaks all the records: Emmannuelle Riva will be the oldest Best Actress winner at 86 if she wins for Amour, and she’s 86 today! Bon anniversaire et bon chance Emmanuelle!

4.) Swans and other less than beautiful creatures on the red carpet: If you’re not one of those lucky enough to be up for a coveted Academy Award (or even if you are) one of the few ways to grab the headlines is to dress like you’ve just escaped from a fancy dress shop. Bjork’s swan, Angelina’s leg-bomb and Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s cross-dressing have all entered into Oscar lore.

5.) Lincoln pulls a Mel Gibson: No we don’t think either Steven Spielberg or Daniel Day-Lewis are going on a drunken rant, but if Lincoln pulls off a Best Picture win it’ll be the first to lose out (to Argo) at every other guild awards bash (Director’s, Actors’ and Writers’) and win at the Oscars since Mel’s 1995 win for Braveheart.

6.) Jennifer Lawrence gets whacky on stage: the outspoken Silver Linings Playbook star has already wowed with the wardrobe malfunction that wasn’t at the SAG awards, and has admitted she’ll be calming her nerves with a few drinks. It could be a recipe for an extraordinary Best Actress acceptance speech.

7.) Daniel Day-Lewis becomes an acting God: If Dan wins, as expected his third Best Actor, he’ll move away from a list of illustrious names as the Academy’s most decorated leading man with three Best Actor Awards.

8.) James Bond wins for the first time in fifty years: Some were disappointed Skyfall missed out on a Best Picture nomination, but it is up for gold in five other categories, with a possible win marking Bond’s 50th in style with a first win since Thunderball won for visual effects in 1966.

9.) It’s way past your bedtime Quvenzhane! History could also be made by the youngest Best Actress winner tonight, by 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis of Beasts of the Southern Wild. We hope she can stay awake for it! She also didn’t know what an Oscar was until recently.

10.) The consolation prizes: Yes the world will be only interested in whether Jen wins or Lincoln can topple Argo but for those who’ve slaved behind the scenes on those overlooked for the main prizes like Anna Karenina and The Hobbit, a win will mean the world. The prizes like Sound Editing, Costume Design and Production Design will also help decide who ends as the night’s overall winner, with Lincoln leading on 12 noms and Life of Pi just behind on 11.

11.) Tommy Lee Jones having the time of his life: Who could forget this moment from the Golden Globes? Tommy is not amused by this awards frippery, even if he is up for Best Supporting Actor.

12.) Stars, Stars, Stars: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson may not have starred in Oscar bait yet but the whole of Hollywood will be there, including those who’ve been a little under the radar, so if you’ve been worried about your favourite member of the glitterati tonight’s the night to catch them and get the goss on the red carpet.

13.) Seth MacFarlane: The host has promised not to go soft tonight, telling Barbara Walters, “If it’s too soft I’m going to disappoint a lot of my fan base; if is too hard I’m going to lose that room”. Go on Seth go for it! We know you want to.
