Tyler Perry Presents Peeples focuses on the Peeples, a well-off East Coast family celebrating a reunion weekend in the Hamptons.
Tyler Perry’s Peeples stars Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier, about a psychologist who realizes his professional help is needed after he arrives unannounced at his girlfriend’s family’s annual end-of-summer party.
Here’s the synopsis:
Wade Walker is eager to propose to his girlfriend, Grace Peeples. But after a year of living together, the beautiful, successful Grace is still cagey about introducing average guy Wade to her ambitious, upper crust family. So when Grace leaves for an annual reunion at her parents’ swanky Sag Harbor compound, Wade decides to crash the gathering, charm his soon-to-be in-laws and slip a ring on Grace’s finger.
However Wade’s plans go hilariously awry when he meets the high-powered, seemingly picture-perfect family who’ll do whatever it takes to keep up appearances. Wade soon finds himself caught in a web of white lies and comic dysfunction, and realizes that his only hope of ever marrying Grace means a take-no-prisoners face-off with Judge Peeples, Grace’s disapproving dad who won’t accept anything less than the very best for his favorite daughter.
Peeples star, Kerry Washington told EW:
“Grace hasn’t told her family a lot about [Wade] at all.”
“She loves Wade very, very much and fears that he won’t accept them and they won’t accept him, and it makes her want to avoid the immersion. If she can just hold it off longer, maybe she’ll figure out how to do it perfectly. Or maybe Wade will suddenly become more successful.”
She adds:
“There’s some old Hollywood physical comedy in the film. [And lots of] different twists and turns with all of the different relationships.”
The film is directed and written by Tina Gordon Chism (Drumline).

Robinson told Movieline in 2011:
“I worked with Tyler on a movie he did called ‘Daddy’s Little Girls.”
“I can’t say enough good things about him. He was way cool and down to earth. He put me in a scene, and the scene didn’t make it into the final cut. But we were having so much fun on the scene that I did — it was so funny — that when I got to the set the next day, he had them put me in an outfit and add an additional scene. That’s the kind of dude he is. He sees something and he goes with it. That’s what makes him great.”
Peeples hits theaters on May 10.
