“The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot.”
“Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited.”
The 1986 novel was famously adapted into a two-part television film in 1990.
It centres around a group of children who must face off against a force that takes on its victims’ greatest fears, personified by Pennywise the Clown.
Years later, they are forced to confront the evil again.
The new It adaptation will also be split into two parts. Fukunaga is currently only attached to direct the first.
“The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing,” added Lin.
“We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make’. So that was really gratifying.”
Fukunaga will executive produce the second season of True Detective, which will star Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly.
