CelebNMusic247.com reports that the superstar Latin singer reflected on his interview in 2000 with Barbara Walters, in which she asked about his sexuality.
At the time, Ricky revealed that he was not prepared to answer the question amid speculation about his sexuality.
Now, 21-years-later, Ricky Martin is able to speak about that awkward moment in his life.
Matin admitted:
When she dropped the question, I felt violated because I was just not ready to come out. I was very afraid. There’s a little PTSD with that.
Back then everyone was curious and kind of knew but needed confirmation from Ricky himself. He just wasn’t ready. Coming out as gay is NOT the easiest thing to do.
He explains during the interview when asked about the rumors of him being gay:
I think that sexuality is something that each individual should deal with in their own way, and that’s all I have to say about that.
When she pushed him to outright answer, he said:
I just don’t feel like it.
He reflected to People:
Well, maybe I would have come out in that interview. It would’ve been great because when I came out, it just felt amazing. When it comes to my sexuality, when it comes to who I am, I want to talk about what I’m made of, about everything that I am. Because if you hide it, it’s a life-or-death situation.
Barbara since expressed her regret for pressuring him to answer on the spot.
She said years ago.
A lot of people say that destroyed his career, and when I think back on it now I feel it was an inappropriate question.
These days Ricky is happily married to Jwan Yosef. The last time we reported on Ricky and Jwan was when they announced they were expecting their fourth baby.
