(CelebNMusic247-News) Grammy Nominee Gregory Porter Talks Coming of Age

CelebNMusic247 had the pleasure to speak with acclaimed Jazz/R&B/Blues/ Soul/Gospel vocalist Gregory Porter.

This is Gregory’s second nomination for a Grammy and he deserves to win this year. He is up against, Anita Baker, Beyoncé, SWV, and Melanie Fiona at this year’s 55th Annual Grammy® Awards.

Gregory and CNM247 chopped it up about his Grammy nomination for “Real Good Hands” off Be Good for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 55th Annual Grammy® Awards!

Gregory tells us about the real life story behind the nominated song “Real Good Hands” and how he grew as a man when asking for his wife’s hand in marriage from her father.

We talked on how life struggles and difficult moments help to fuel his creative juices. We both agree that emotion helps motivate expression.

Gregory Porter also tells us that he writes his own lyrics and music, but sometimes it’s a collaborative effort between he and his fellow band mates.

The former San Diego state football player submerged himself into music after injuring his shoulder. He says his mother was cool with him not having to play the sport anymore. Porter was able to follow his other passion which was Jazz music diving into the jazz club scene and really embracing the art and emotion of the genre of music he loves.

Porter describes why he chose jazz over R&B or soul in the mid-90s.

Gregory talks on many things from black culture and the jazz music and how it all inner-twines itself into being Black in America. He tells us that he’s still stuck in an era in away talking about his influence like Donny Hathaway, Nat King Cole, Leon Thomas, Robert Glassber, Esperanza Spalding and more…

He says he listens to fellow Grammy Nominees like Frank Ocean, Beyoncé and more, but he loves older music that shows deeper emotion.
