Some war films are about battles. The Fallow Few is about the morning after one — and now that The Fallow Few release date is set, what an army did to its own finally gets its due.

ComingSoon exclusively revealed the release dates this week: the World War I drama opens in UK theaters on October 23, 2026, showing at Vue, Everyman, and Picturehouse cinemas among others, then arrives on Digital on November 3, 2026, courtesy of Archstone Entertainment.

The Fallow Few release date: the true story behind the film

The film is based on the true story of British officer Sub-Lieutenant Edwin Dyett, who was court-martialed for desertion following the Battle of the Somme. Christopher Bonwell — who voiced Count Fenring in 2022’s Dune: Spice Wars — stars as Dyett, and per ComingSoon’s description of the trailer, the film follows him as a disillusioned soldier at the Western Front, tasked with guarding British deserters on death row while wrestling with whether to disobey his own superiors. It is a story about the machinery of military justice told from inside the cell block, and the trailer leans into faces, not spectacle.

Written and directed by JR Rappaport, the film co-stars Bradley James, Luke Brandon Field, Sir Tony Robinson, Ashleigh Reynolds, and Louis Davison. Rappaport’s hope for it, per ComingSoon: “I hope our film does justice to the complexities of conversations around how Veterans are treated, both then and now. Bringing the film to communities across the UK and beyond is a way to honor what these young men endured alongside their descendants, while celebrating the spirit of independent cinema.”

Why the festival circuit already voted

The festival circuit has already voted. The Fallow Few won the Audience Choice Award for Best International Film and the Jury Award for Best Independent Feature at this year’s Sedona International Film Festival, with further awards at the Boston Film Festival and the Toronto Independent Film Festival, per ComingSoon. Its release also carries partnerships with the Poppy Appeal and The King’s Trust, which support former Armed Forces personnel and disadvantaged young people respectively — a fitting tail for a film about what a country owes the young men it sends away.

Co-producer Jake Seal of ORWO Studios told ComingSoon the team believes “this picture will resonate beyond just fans of historical films or fans of the war genre.” On the evidence of the trailer and the true story underneath it, that sounds less like publicity and more like a fair warning. Bring tissues.
