The 15-year-old’s legal team filed a motion seeking to transfer his case to juvenile court after a Georgia grand jury indicted him on seven felony charges stemming from allegations involving a female classmate.

KJ’s Attorneys Want Case Moved to Juvenile Court
According to Page Six, attorney Jason Sheffield filed a motion on Tuesday requesting that the proceedings be transferred to juvenile court.
The defense is also seeking confidentiality protections surrounding the proceedings — an especially significant request considering KJ’s age and the sensitive nature of the allegations.
Sheffield said prosecutors currently intend to try the teenager as an adult, something the defense is attempting to prevent.

These are allegations contained in a criminal case, and KJ is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case reportedly stems from an alleged April 23 incident involving KJ and a female classmate at a gym in Alpharetta, Georgia.

KJ was arrested on August 17 and has reportedly remained at Atlanta’s Metro Regional Youth Detention Center while the case moves through the court system.
According to the report citing Fulton County court records, his bond hearing is scheduled for September 11.

Sheffield questioned how someone KJ’s age could potentially spend weeks in detention before having the opportunity to appear for a bond hearing.
“It is difficult to comprehend that a 14- or 15-year-old child can be held in detention for a month or longer simply waiting for a bond hearing,” Sheffield told Page Six.
The defense argues that the seriousness of the charges brought by investigators resulted in KJ remaining detained while awaiting further proceedings.
Now, his attorneys are hoping the court will agree that the case belongs in the juvenile justice system.
