Some war films are about battles. The Fallow Few is about the paperwork of a man’s destruction — and ComingSoon can exclusively reveal when audiences will be able to judge it for themselves.
Per ComingSoon, the World War I drama will be released in UK theaters on October 23, 2026, screening at Vue, Everyman and Picturehouse cinemas among others, and will arrive on digital on November 3, 2026, courtesy of Archstone Entertainment.
The true story
The film is based on the true story of British officer Sub-Lieutenant Edwin Dyett, who was court-martialed for desertion following the Battle of the Somme, per ComingSoon. It is written and directed by JR Rappaport, and it stars Christopher Bonwell — noted by ComingSoon for Dune: Spice Wars — in the lead role.
Dyett’s case has haunted military historians for more than a century, precisely because it sits in the grayest territory the Great War produced: the distance between cowardice, exhaustion and a command structure that needed examples. A century on, the Somme remains the defining image of that machinery, and a courtroom drama built on one officer’s fate is a very different — and potentially more devastating — way into it than another charge across no man’s land.
The exclusive trailer, embedded above via ComingSoon’s reveal, leans into that intimacy: this is a film about faces, testimony and the terrible slowness of a system deciding what a man is.
UK audiences get the first verdict on Friday, October 23, with the digital release on November 3 bringing the film home. History buffs and awards-season completists, mark both dates — small, true-story dramas like this one have a habit of becoming the film everybody is talking about by Christmas.
