CelebNMovies247.com has just learned via 20th Century Fox and James Cameron’s Avatar Facebook page that the long awaited sequels have all gotten their release dates.
In a post on Facebook, the news reads as follows:
“Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels. The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025!”
Basically, the first Avatar takes flight on December 18, 2020. In 2021, the third installment of Avatar will follow on December 17, 2021.
Then, fans of the franchise will have to suffer for three years until part 4 hits the theater. That’s if fans are still thirsting for more Avatar at that time.
The fourth film his theaters on December 20, 2024 followed by the final installment on December 19, 2025. It appears that Avatar has decided to release the films after the Star Wars franchise completes it’s trilogy. However it will still have to compete with the solo origin spin-off films from the Star Wars Universe.
We love that James Cameron is finally releasing these movies, but it’s been 8 years since the first movie. Maybe Cameron will re-release the first one to get a new generation of fans interested in the movie. Not much is known about the plot(s) of Avatars 2-5. Sam Worthington will also be involved to some degree.
Will Avatar 2, Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 prove to be big studio money makers after 8 years without an Avatar film?
Cameron has proven the naysayers wrong in the past, can he do it again? Are people still thirsting for the exoplanetary moon of Pandora?
Cameron might have a safe net since Disney’s Animal Kingdom lets park adventurers explore Pandora. That alone might keep a built in audience hungering for more. Plus if the park adds new adventures to corolate with the films then we can see Cameron cashing in on his franchise.
