Formula 1’s next generation of women drivers is getting the full documentary treatment. Disney+ will debut The Pursuit: F1 Academy, a new documentary special about F1 Academy — the all-female racing series Formula 1 launched to develop young women for the higher levels of motorsport — exclusively on the service worldwide on November 19. The special will also stream on the ESPN App later this year.

The timing is deliberate. The November 19 premiere lands right ahead of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend (November 19–21), and the announcement itself was made in the lead-up to the United States Grand Prix — Disney and Formula 1 are putting this story in front of race fans at the exact moment the sport has their attention.

Inside the 2025 season

The special was filmed across the global race locations on the 2025 F1 Academy calendar and promises behind-the-scenes access to the full season — the intensity of race weekends and the moments off the track that decide careers. It follows a group of elite young drivers including Doriane Pin, Maya Weug, Chloe Chambers and Alisha Palmowski as they handle the pressure of competition and the personal sacrifices it takes to break into one of the most demanding sports in the world.

It also goes up the ladder: the teams and leadership shaping the series get screen time, including F1 Academy Managing Director Susie Wolff.

“Every driver on the F1 Academy grid is pursuing a dream, and this special will capture the reality of that journey — the sacrifices, setbacks and success that happen both on and off the track,” Wolff said in the announcement. “Together with Disney+, we can share those stories on a global stage, and we hope they resonate far beyond motorsport and inspire young women to pursue their ambitions fearlessly, no matter the odds.”

F1 Academy’s Bigger Disney–F1 Play

The Pursuit: F1 Academy is produced in association with ESPN and is the latest piece of “Fuel the Magic,” the multi-year collaboration between Disney, Formula 1 and F1 Academy that mixes storytelling, racing culture and fan experiences at Grand Prix weekends. The partnership was first unveiled at the Chinese Grand Prix and expanded at the Canadian Grand Prix, where Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck fronted the F1 Academy side of the campaign — championing confidence, representation and the next generation of women in motorsport.

Joss Hastings, SVP Marketing at Disney Consumer Products, framed the special the same way: “Our ambition is to ‘Fuel the Magic’ for Disney and F1 fans through products, experiences and storytelling, and this is an exciting way to share the courage, ambition and heart of these drivers while inspiring the next generation of women in motorsport.”

The special also joins Disney+’s growing slate of live and event-driven sports programming — Disney is clearly building the service into a sports destination, not just a film and series library.

The 247 Take — Racing documentaries live or die on access, and this one has the two things that matter: a full season of real stakes and drivers the audience can actually follow into next year. Dropping it the same week as Las Vegas is smart programming — the casual fans F1 picks up under the lights are exactly the viewers a story like this converts. — Cliff Maddox, The Beat Writer
