Trina + Nicki Minaj "BAPS" Biggest Selling Female Hip Hop Song on iTunes

“Love & Hip Hop: Miami” star Trina dropped a hot new track featuring Nicki Minaj on the song “BAPS” from her new album The One.

Trina and Nicki Minaj have no time for unworthy men in their newest girl gang anthem, “BAPS.” The song also pays homage to the first black woman to win an Academy Award for best actress, Halle Berry. Read on…

CelebNMusic247.com reports that Trina + Nicki Minaj’s “BAPS” references the comedy film “B*A*P*S” aka Black American Princesses, starring Halle Berry — features a sample of the 2000 song “Project Bitch,” and a Pac-Man-like dot-crunching background beat.

Trina + Nicki Minaj “BAPS” will reintroduce what a BAP is to a new generation using a familiar beat from the Cash Money Millionaires, thanks to Birdman. Trina’s uses BAPS for her new term “Bad Ass Pretty Sagittarius” instead of “Black American Princesses.”

Trina stopped by HOT 97 to talk to Nessa about her new album, The One:

Halle Berry’s flick tanked at the time but today is considered a pioneering rom-com and cult classic starring women of color on the silver screen at a time when that was far less common.

She said back in 2002 regarding the rom-com ‘B*A*P*S’:

Do I think that’s one of my best performances? Maybe not. But I know, for the community and my culture, I know what that means to us — as a people and as women.

17 years later BAPS is an important part of the culture and with Trina and Nicki Minaj paying homage to the culture this is sure to be a summer jam. The song has already racked up over 245,000 views since dropping overnight.

For you millennials, “BAPS” was taken from Cash Money Millionaires – “Project Bitch” hit song from the Baller Blockin soundtrack which released back on September 12, 2000.

What do you think of Trina’s updated use of Cash Money Millionaires – “Project Bitch”?
