The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been endlessly touring  for nearly two years  in support of their half-million-selling tenth album I’m With You album.

Now things are finally running down and the Anthony, Flea and Chad Smith have a few more festivals to perform at and then its back to the lab. Before the Los Angeles foursome can settle down and hit the studio, they’ll check off a few more festival performances including San Francisco’s Outside Lands and Metallica’s Orion Festival, taking over Belle Isle Park in Smith’s home town of Detroit on June 8.

RHCP’s drummer Chad Smith told Billboard:

“We’re probably looking at getting together in September and getting on a roll and starting to write songs for the next record.”

Though things are still in the very early stages, he added:

“We always have little ideas percolating in jams and rehearsal warm-ups and sound checks and gigs. Sometimes we bust into stuff… We just kind of play whatever, so we always have those little tidbits. But we don’t have any fully-formed songs until the four of us get in a room together. That’s when the real writing process starts. So, yeah, we’re looking at the fall.”

At this point, Smith says they just have little “tidbits” and “ideas percolating.”

Until September then…
