The Home Town Takeover franchise crosses the border today. Home Town Takeover Canada premieres Sunday, October 25 on HGTV in Canada, streaming on Citytv+, with Bryan Baeumler and Sarah Baeumler leading a full small-town transformation in Port Alberni, British Columbia.

If the hosting change has you doing a double take, you are not alone — and the original hosts are the first to explain it. Ben Napier and Erin Napier, who fronted the first three U.S. seasons of town-wide revivals, appear this season only as guest stars. In a December 2025 interview with CinemaBlend, relayed by TV Insider, Erin explained the reason plainly: their production company is Canadian, and a Canadian broadcast show has to be hosted by Canadian talent.
“Because we are Americans, we are not legally allowed to host the show. We can only be in it as, like, guest stars,” Erin shared. Ben added that Canadian hosting had to make up the overwhelming majority — “90%; I think 90 was the number.”
A handoff, not a rivalry
Far from sounding displaced, the Napiers sound relieved to hand the sledgehammer to friends. “Home Town Takeover is a lot of work. Bryan and Sarah are incredibly talented,” Ben told House Beautiful, per TV Insider. “Bryan in Canada is like the Michael Jordan of home renovation. It felt good that we were handing it off to them.”
That is not faint praise. The Baeumlers are no strangers to CelebnMusic247 readers — Renovation Island, the Caerula Mar Club resort in the Bahamas and Building Baeumler have made them one of HGTV’s true cross-border franchises. Port Alberni plays to their strengths: a close-knit Vancouver Island community getting a 12-week transformation, surprising local changemakers with life-changing renovations and building toward a grand reopening, per the show’s official description. Scott McGillivray and Sarah Keenleyside join as special guests alongside the Napiers.
Bryan, for his part, sounds genuinely moved by the town. “It took me back to being a kid in the ’80s,” he said. “Everybody knows each other. The community is so supportive of each other. The First Nations that we met are also an incredible asset. The Seshaht and the Hupacasath First Nations, and having the opportunity to meet their elected chiefs, spend time with them, and be involved in their culture was incredible.”
Erin’s framing of the whole franchise is the mission statement the Canadian season now has to live up to: “You cannot come into a town and make it something it’s not. The goal is to help a town get a little bit further down the road to rebirth or growth. The only way to do that is to let the town tell the story.”
One honest caveat for U.S. fans before you go hunting through tonight’s listings: HGTV has not announced when — or if — the Canada season will air or stream in the United States, per TV Insider. For now, this premiere belongs to Canada, with Citytv+ streaming it there. We will flag a U.S. date the moment HGTV confirms one, and we are not printing one until it does.
And keep Nov. 10 circled on the HGTV calendar while you wait: Big Bargain Holiday Showdown, the Tara Lipinski-hosted Christmas competition, is the network’s next dated U.S. premiere.
The 247 Take — This is how you expand a franchise without breaking it: keep the founders close as guests, hand the keys to hosts the new audience already trusts, and let Port Alberni tell its own story. The Baeumlers were the only real choice for this job.
