The Tontons may take their name from a giant snow lizard seen in Star Wars, but don’t rush to judgement; the Houston crew are well-versed in lovers’ rock. To wit, the group’s second album, due out February 18, is called Make Out King and Other Stories of Love. The foursome — led by sultry-voiced singer Asli Omar and rounded out by bassist Tom Nguyen, as well as brothers Adam and Justin Martinez, on guitar and drums, respectively — have already shared two songs from the forthcoming follow-up to their 2009 self-titled debut: Pastepulled the curtain back on taut soul-rock track “Veida” and Rolling Stone ushered in opening charmer “Magic Hour.”

The Houston, TX rising kings (and queen) of indie-rock are returning to SXSW after just hitting PASTE’s 12Texas Bands You Should Listen To Now List, The Wall Street Journal‘s Best Songs of 2013 list, and with performances under their belt from SXSW 2013 opening for Dawes and P.Diddy. The Tontons are poised to become one of the most buzzed about bands at this year’s fest and in 2014. A culmination of years on the road, The Tontons are on the brink of releasing their forthcoming LP on February 18th – Make Out King and Other Stories of Love – produced and mixed by Dave Boyle (Black Joe Lewis, Okkervil
River, Robert Plant) at Austin’s ChurchHouse Studios.
