(CelebNMusic247-News) Sathima Bea Benjamin Dies
The Jazz songstress Sathima Bea Benjamin, who was a pioneering artist and leader in the anti-apartheid movement alongside revolutionary Nelson Mandela has died.
The Jazzz songstree, Sathima Bea Benjamin was born in Cape Town in 1936. By the early 1960’s, Benjamin had made a name for herself in the music and theatre scene.
Two weeks ago, Standard bank Joy of Jazz awarded Sathima Bea Benjamin with the Lifetime achievement award. The South African Government also bestowed Benjamin with the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver at the National Orders awards in 2004 for her excellent contribution as a jazz artist in the development of music in South Africa and internationally.
She was also honoured for her contribution to the struggle against apartheid.
