(CelebNMusic247-News) NBC Pulls Michael J. Fox Show!
Things aren’t looking good for The Michael J. Fox Show, since NBC has pulled the show from Thursday nights.
Starting Feb. 27, NBC will replace the low-rated comedy with episodes of Hollywood Game Night (9 p.m. ET/PT).
Fox was scheduled to be off until that time because of the network’s winter Olympic Games coverage.
All 22 of Fox’s first-season episodes of the Michael J. Fox Show have been produced, but only 15 have been broadcast. NBC will decide on the scheduling of remaining episodes, which will not happen until after April 3.
The scheduling move likely means the end for Fox’s show, which marked the popular actor’s much-heralded return to a leading role in a TV series. The move comes just a few days after production was stopped on the remaining episodes of its time-slot neighbor, Sean Saves the World, another first-year series that also appears to be finished.
Neither comedy had been performing well in the 9 p.m. ET/PT hour. For the season, Fox is averaging 5.1 million viewers and Sean, which features Sean Hayes, another star returning to series television, is averaging 4.1 million viewers. NBC has had a difficult time establishing a two-hour comedy beachhead on Thursday, as another new series, Welcome to the Family, was canceled early in the season.
The critically praised Parks and Recreation, another NBC Thursday comedy, will get another season, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said last month. At the time, he said he was pleased with Fox and Sean creatively but was “unhappy” with the audience numbers.
Hayes will retain a presence in the time slot, however, since he is one of the executive producers of Game Night, which is hosted by Jane Lynch.
