Young Money rap star, Lil Wayne is under fire for disrespecting the memory of Emmett Till in a remix for Future’s new single ‘Karate Chop…’

Here’s the drop:

In the summer of 1955 a 14-year-old boy from Chicago named Emmett Till was visiting his family in Mississippi when he was accused of whistling at a white woman in a local store.

That night Emmett was dragged from his bed by two white men who tortured and shot him before tossing his body in the Tallahatchie River where he was found tied to a cotton-gin fan with barbed wire 3 days later.

Emmett’s murder is widely credited with starting the Civil Rights Movement after his mother held an open casket funeral and pictures of Emmett’s badly disfigured body spread across the country.

The men accused of murdering Emmett Till were later acquitted by an all white jury.  Last week the remix for Future’s single Karate Chop leaked online containing a lyric from Lil Wayne.

The disrespectful lyric is as follows:

“Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels/ Beat that pussy up like Emmett Till.”

In the wake of the uproar that followed, Epic Records has pulled the verse and released an apology to the Family of Emmett Till.

“We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future’s ‘Karate Chop,’ which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics. Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. … we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version.”

Let’s be real here for a minute…Lil Wayne needs to understand the history before making an ignorant verse that completely disrespects Emmett and his family. He may be aware of the incident, but a full understanding should he in line. Epic Records was correct for pulling the wrongful verse.
