(CelebNMusic247-News) Live 105’s BFD Rocks with STP 30 Seconds to Mar And More
Yesterday (May 19) the Shoreline Amphitheater was filled to capacity as alternative rock fans gathered to see some of the best “rock bands around” as of Thirty Seconds to Mars said last night on stage.
The day kicked off with an awesome performance from New Politics on the Budweiser stages and continued all day long under the blazing sun in Mountain View California. Live 105 had a great set up for stages, which could have been better if they came up with some type of tent that provided shade for festival goers who like me are dealing with sunburn today. The lineup set up in 25 minute intervals for each band to showcase their hits and give you a taste of what made them famous thanks to Live 105 playing their hits and introducing music lovers to great music that other stations don’t play.
Some of the best performances from the Budweiser stages were, Atlas Genius, Jimmy Eat World, Capital Cities, Twenty One Pilots, and Fitz and the Tantrums. All these bands truly rocked the stage and kept fans glued to them as the baked under the sun. As for The Neighborhood who suffered from some technical difficulties with sound was playing the same time Gold Fields was ruling in the Subsonic tent. Personally, The Neighborhood had their moments under the sun yesterday, but if we had to choose it would go to Gold Fields who blew fans away in the Subsonic tent.
Which leads us to the non-stop dance party in the Subsonic tent that kicked off to the left of the Budweiser stages and kept the party going to the very end. It was announced that The Crystal Method was to be performing, but obviously there was a change in lineup and they were not there. However, Diplo took the reins last night and electrified us all with bass pound beats, heart pounding sounds and electrifying visuals that had the crowd bouncing until the very end. Subsonic was off the chain and was one of our favorite parts of the all-day event.
Now while these three stages provided all day music for music fans, there was another stage placed in the food area of the festival that feature local bands up until the last set at 530 with the Tumbleweed Wanderers, who gave a great show and we highly recommend. Now while that stage was coming to a close the main stages was out of control with a badass performance from Silversun Pickups who was missing their bassist, Nikki Monninger, who was out being a mom to her two twins she recently gave birth too. Lead vocalist for the Los Angeles grown band revealed that Nikki found out she was pregnant during last year’s Live 105 BFD and that they missed her not being with them on the road.
Nikki gave birth to her two bundles of joy on December 10, 2012. Here is a pick for you Silversun Pickup fans:
AWOLNATION was incredible on stage and reminded us of early Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails when they first came on the scene. Lead singer, Aaron Bruno told festival goers how he used to attend Live 105 BFD’s fifteen years prior to yesterday and how he started a mosh pit during Pearl Jam’s performance got in a fight and then was thrown out. His electronic rock performance was off the hook.
Of Monsters and Men gave a great show reminisant of the Sugar Cubes and Bjork, with the same singing style, yet with a more folkloric approach representing Ireland. They had everyone dancing in the isles. Then after a lineup change up headliners Thirty Seconds to Mars hit the stage and it was magnificent. Fans went crazy and lead vocalist Jared Leto controlled his audience and kept them captivated with hit after hit and then premiered their new single “Up In the Air” from their forth coming album Love Lust Faith + Dreams which releases tomorrow (Tuesday May 21) on iTunes. 30 Seconds ended their set with gigantic turtles, Dolphins, Killer Whales and all different sized balls that fans could throw around while they wrapped up their amazing show.
Passion Pit ended up closing the show, but most of the crowd either left or went over to watch Diplo tear things up! We unfortunately cannot tell you how Passion Pit was on stage, we heard them and they sounded great, but we had to get our dance on with Diplo who was purely amazing.
Live 105 had one super surprise up their sleeves last night as Stone Temple Pilots took the stage minus Scott Weiland, who was FIRED from the band this past February, there’s no denying it now! However, STP has replaced Scott with Linkin Park‘s Chester Bennington and the band introduced fans to the new STP last night at Live 105’s BFD and KROQ’s Weenie Roast on Saturday (May18).
Check out the new single “out of Time” from Stone Temple Pilots below:
STP guitarist Dean DeLeo in a statement gleaned by SPIN, said this about Chester taking over Scott’s job:
“Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time.”
“We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”
Overall the show was stellar like we said at the beginning and all the bands, festivities and more were great. However, when it comes to food there was only one vendor that rocked and that was Kiblo – a fusion of Korean BBQ and Mexican food that kicked ass. The Teriyaki Chicken Burritos were crazy good and so were the Tacos. Because you know I had to try it all! As for the rest of the food offered at BFD was less than healthy since Bottle Rock Napa kicks ass on ALL festivals when it comes to delicious, healthy and amazing cuisine. Shoreline needs to up their food game, since Bottle Rock is the masters for event food. I mean what festival can you go watch Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, Primus and more while eating a Lobster sandwich from Morimotto? The answer Bottle Rock Napa!
