Kendrick Lamar Speaks On Shaking Up Hip Hop

One year after the Control verse, Kendrick Lamar says he looks at the music as a sport and that he is cool with J Cole and Drake.

CelebNMusic247.com got the tip via 4UMF.com via Pwer106 as K-Dot speaks on the “Control” verse one year later and how it shook up the hip hop industry.

In support of his latest single, Kendrick Lamar stopped by Power 106’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood to speak on his new track “i,” and his memorable “Control” verse that shook the rap game just a year ago.

Kendrick made plenty of noise last year after appearing on Big Sean‘s “Control” record. In the track, the TDE rapper called out fellow rap compadres Drake, J.Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, and Pusha T.

The verse spawned a few one-sided beefs, and plenty of remixes by Papoose, Cassidy, King Los and more.

In the interview Kendrick says he didn’t expect the verse to have the impact it did on the culture.

“I didn’t know until after you [saw] the hooray and hoorah about it,” he said. “The fact that Hip Hop hasn’t been shaken up in a long time. When I went in and did the verse, I thought I was just having fun, and these cats I know..we having fun. But I see how the world took it and flipped the media… it has been 10, 15 years since there was some type of shaking up in the game. ”

He added that there isn’t any animosity towards anyone called out in the song.

“It’s all love,” he said. “I think Hip Hop is a sport so you’re going to have these little spits and spats and it’s all good because personally I respect all these dudes as people so outside of that, it’s really nothing.”
