John Boyega Up For Lead in Star Wars: Episode VII

Attack on the Block’s John Boyega is one of 5 possibles to land the lead role to fight evil in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII through IV

CelebNMusic247.com has learned that John Boyega (Attack the Block) is one of five young men on the shortlist of actors which has apparently been narrowed down to rather eclectic mix of actors. The list also includes Ed Speleers (Eragon), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), and theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher. What CelebNMusic247.com already knows is Girls star Adam Driver will be playing the villain in “Star Wars: Episode 7,” while Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are widely expected to return in one way or another.

As for details on Star Wars: Episode VII, they’re on lock down for the moment, but the above names have dripped out as possibilities for what Variety is calling “the right Jedi to challenge Driver and the evil empire.”

We would love to see John Boyega, his performance in Attack on the Block showed his range as well as his talent. It would be nice to see him take on the Jedi role or at least one of the Jedi roles in the film. Our second choice would probably be Ed Speleers, but it seems studios today always go for the hype which might be Jesse Plemons. We hope J.J. Abrams sees what we see in Boyega.

Here is what’s being said by Variety who reports that the five aforementioned gentlemen are at the top of a rather short list for the lead in Star Wars: Episode VII.

Everyone under the sun appears to have been involved in the auditioning process for the coveted role, so just to make it this far is a pretty significant achievement.  The only pseudo-official confirmation of in-person auditions so far came from Abrams himself concerning his talks with Plemons.  Here’s hoping we get some literally official news sometime soon.

Some character details have emerged, however, even if they’re still a bit vague.  The part of the lead role is expected by be a Jedi apprentice.  Michael Arndt’s original draft would have focused on Han Solo and Princess Leia’s offspring, but it looks like Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan’s rewrite moves those characters into a supporting role instead.  A proposed reason for this, and the film’s delay

Our last report on the start date for the much-anticipated sequel had production kicking off in London’s Pinewood Studios some time in May and lasting through September.  This new report bumps that calendar back a tad, as they’re now expected to start filming in the late second/early third quarter.  As of this writing,

Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to debut on December 18, 2015.
