CelebNMusic247.com reports that Ernie Hines named Jay-Z and Timbaland along with Roc-A-Fella Records, Def Jam Recordings, Universal Music Group, and Sony Music, in the lawsuit.
Ernie Hines claimed Jay-Z and Timbaland used his 1969 song, “Help Me Put Out The Flames In My Heart,” without his permission. The song in question is “Paper Chase” which comes from Jay-Z’s 1998 album Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life. Timbaland produced the song back in 98.
According to AHH, Hines also alleged that “Help Me Put Out The Flames In My Heart” was used on Ginuwine’s 1999 track, “Toe 2 Toe,” which the heavyweight hip-hop producer also worked on, according to legal documents obtained by The Blast.
You can clearly hear it on “Help Me Put Out The Flames In My Heart” was used on Ginuwine’s 1999 track, “Toe 2 Toe”:
If you are wondering why it has taken so long for the soul musician from Jackson, Mississippi to become aware of the songs using his sample is because he “does not listen to rap music.”
See, Ernie is “a senior citizen (and) does not listen to rap music,” according to his attorney.
That is great, but if he listened to the songs back in 98, Ernie would have only been 60-years-old at that time.
Hines is suing for copyright infringement and demanding at least $2 million.
