Hill Harper , who has played Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on the spin-off since it began in 2004, but the show’s ninth season finale – airing tonight in the US – will be his final episode.

It is currently unclear if CSI: NY will return for a tenth season, but Harper chose not to extend his current deal before learning the show’s fate.
The 46-year-old will now join USA‘s Covert Affairs – which is currently shooting its fourth season – as a new series regular.His character – an ambitious CIA agent based in Latin America – is eager to land an important position in Washington, turning to Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) for help.
Covert Affairs received an order for a 16-episode new season back in September.
Harper is said to be a fan of the show and decided to sign up for a role after considering parts in several network pilots.
