Google Glass has yet to reach the market but Google is already working on its latest wearable technology with a new smart contact lens in development.
Primarily designed for medical applications for now, the new lens is made up of two layers of “biocompatible” lens material with a wireless chip, antenna, and a sensor sandwiched in between.
The sensor is designed to measure glucose levels in the wearer’s tears, giving diabetics an easier and less intrusive way to monitor their condition. At present, Google is hoping to secure support from partners with more experience in the medical market as well as the FDA to ensure development goes smoothly.
