The Garden State diva’s presence was felt heavily through the many, many phone calls she makes to her family. But viewers hoping for some schadenfreude fun were in for a shock when the episode revealed itself to be a bit of a sobering downer.
While Joe Giudice struggles to take care of the his four daughters while his wife Teresa Giudice sits behind bars we have gotten a whole new level of respect for her.
On the premiere episode of Teresa Checks In the 3-part series kicks off with the family getting ready for Joe and Teresa’s 14 year old daughter, Gia’s eighth grade homecoming. Gia has grown quite a bit and she is looking like a 18 year old. While Joe Giudice takes care for Milania, Audriana, and Gabriella. Teresa’s parents stop by and the party begins making the night a memorable night for Gia, thanks to Teresa. There are numerous moments with Teresa on the phone since Danbury Correctional has a strict “no reality TV cameras” policy, apparently.

As for Joe, he clearly feels guilty about Teresa being behind bars, but wait until we tell you this. Did you know that the whole time Teresa has been behind bars her own father NEVER visited her because he doesn’t feel like he will be able to contain himself.
Of course, Melissa and Joe Gorga are back. Melissa reveals that she is filling in for Teresa helping with the girls like taking them to the movies and having sleepovers, but she feels Joe should be doing it. Melissa also says that she was bothered that Joe and herself weren’t told to come to Gia’s homecoming party pictures at T’s house. But we understand because Teresa and Joe have history with Joe and Melissa. Let’s be real Teresa doesn’t trust Melissa and we don’t want to see these two fight, especially now because Teresa may have learned a few things in the pin.
Next we get more touching moments with the star of the show, Gia and her mom. Teresa remains super positive doing her best to be strong enough for her family. Never show you’re scared is obviously Teresa’s motto. Gia is trying to remain strong but is upset that her mother is not there. Gia starts getting emotional which makes everyone else get emotional. Teresa’s father can’t handle seeing his granddaughter so upset that he has to walk away. Milania makes sure to follow her grandfather and check on him. Gabriella tries to help Gia get it together and not get emotional with Teresa because we know that will just make Teresa even more sad. We see where Teresa gets her stregnth.
Joe gives an emotional speech which has everyone at home like me in tears. Milania changes the mood when she finds Gia and her date with Dante. He gets introduce him to Juicy Joe. Milania is like a mini Joe monotoring her sisters. Later Juicy gives Dante the typical dad speech which is fun to watch. later when Gia leaves, Milania makes sure to remind Gia to keep her hands to herself.
Also on the show is Rosia, Kathy and Richie. We also learn that Joe is only able to see Teresa once every two weeks because he is a felon while his children see her every weekend. Teresa’s lawyer James points out that Teresa will have to go through the same thing.
It’s Gia’s middle school graduation! Gia is heartbroken that her mother can’t make it and Milania is acting up. I think Milania is struggling the most. She was the most attached to her mother. Juicy throws Gia a graduation and Melissa and Joe Gorga attend. It sucks that Teresa is missing this but everyone is trying their best to remain strong.
Later that night, Teresa calls Joe and you can tell that he is beyond emotional any time he hears her voice. Teresa plays around and asks Juicy if he wants to have phone sex. Juicy reveals he is on the couch and hasn’t been in their room since T has left. Juicy’s love for Teresa for dealing with all of this just much stronger. Next week, we get to watch as Teresa opens up on what goes on behind prison plus more.
What we learned about Teresa Checks In:
What we learned is that Teresa has unlimited email access in the joint, she only gets 300 minutes of phone time a month. So, while it seemed like she was calling a lot during the hour, she’s only got about 10 minutes a day. Sometimes Tre runs out of minutes before the month is over, so she has to go without speaking to her family.
We also learned that Joe truly loves his wife, because Joe admits since Teresa’s been gone he can’t stand to be in their bedroom. Instead, he chooses to sleep on their couch.
When you compare RHONJ to Teresa Checks In, we feel that this is one of the REALEST reality TV series in a longtime since most shows are losely motivated for drama and story lines.
