(CelebNMusic247-News) Tarantino’s Django Could Have Been A Novel
Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti western Django Unchained is around 2:45 mins, but the film moves a fast pace and is so engrossing that you don’t notice its length unlike Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which is like watching paint dry.
Jackson should really cut down the lengthy slow motion filming to enhance emotion. It worked for Lord of the Rings but fails for The Hobbit. [Get The full review later today].
As for Django Unchained which has already nabbed five nominations for the Golden Globe Awards early next year, which usually bodes well for any prospective chance at an Oscar.
While at the NYC press conference Quentin Tarantino spoke on the script and its potential to initially be a novel first.
Tarantino comments:
“I make these scripts that are almost novels.”
Tarantino reveals that if he had to do it all over again he would have gone with a novel first.
He says:
“If I had to do this whole thing over again I would have published this as a novel and done this after the fact.”
Quentin adds:
“I could do what Kevin Costner did with the expanded edition of Dances with Wolves, and I could very well do that. Because if I put some of that in I have to change the story. But I want this version to be the story for a while.”
When making an epic film, Tarantino agrees with Hobbit director Jackson that you have to follow the journey to the end. Tarantino also reveals that he had to fight to keep this one film, since Harvey Weinstein wanted to split this into a two-part film.
“It had to be an odyssey”
He continues:
“At one point Harvey [Weinstein] was talking about splitting it up [into two films]. And I said, ‘No, it won’t work here.’ You have to follow Django’s journey to the end.” Django Unchained is released on Christmas Day and looks to do well, with the critics reviews still aggregating out at 100% on the site Rotten Tomatoes.”
