Stargate Franchise Reboot Cancelled; ID2 Killed It

CelebNMovies247.com has just got word that filmmaker Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin revealed that they were working on a Stargate reboot.

The only problem, the did a sequel to the long awaited and beloved film Independence Day. Their sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence crashed and burned with critics and fans of the film. The result has put all of their projects in jeopardy. The original plan was to finally realize their plans for the Stargate franchise that they developed back when the 1994. They had planned to go back and remake the first film, which would be a first of three. James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright, the writing team behind Independence Day: Resurgence, were put on the project, but no longer. Stargate is at a dead halt.

Devlin revealed that the plans for the new Stargate is dead while speaking with Empire:

“It looked good for a couple of months, but now it’s not looking so good. There are just a lot of things that have to fire at the same time, and there was a moment where I thought it was all firing at the same time, and then it all kind of fell apart.”

He noted that studio concern over numbers and product instead of quality is one of the reasons the Stargate reboot is no longer happening. The studio is also afraid that they will ruin the legacy of the film.

“Listen, I think if we did Stargate right, the fans would like it and we could do something really good. But if we screw it up, they’ll reject it. As they should. But I kind of don’t want to do it if I think that we’ll screw it up, and that’s one of the things that’s holding us back.”

We can relate to the studio after Independence Day: Resurgence was a technical box office bomb. It only managed to conjure $389.6 million at the box office against a reported $165 million budget. NOT GOO! Once you factor in marketing costs plus expectations that Resurgence would be a major international player, the film’s disappointment becomes clear. Especially when you put it next to the success of Jurassic World which hit the $1 billion mark in the box office.

CelebNMovies247.com is happy that Stargate is dead in the water. It’s a classic film that doesn’t need a remake EVER. Our advice to Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin is get a fresh new idea and leave 80s and 90s movies alone!!!

We know that Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin are creative people and there are so many scripts out there waiting to be the next block buster. Give a new writer a chance, you might SCORE HUGE! At least better than Resurgence. The movie was a disaster all the way down to the casting. The original cast suffered next to the lackluster talents put in the film. Those actor are up and coming, but were NOT ready for a blockbuster. And we are talking Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie T. Usher. Those three are supposed to carry the film and they FAILED! They are great on TV and co-stars, but leads they are NOT! Sorry to be the ones that are truthful, but Hollywood tends to fail when actors basically SUCK!  Someone had to say it.

Thoughts?
