The word from Marvin Gaye’s estate to Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, you two “Got to Give It Up.” They borrowed too generously from Gaye’s music!!!
Find out why Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams “Got to Give It Up” on the flip…

CelebNMusic247.com has learned that the Marvin Gaye’s estate has asked a Los Angeles appeals court to uphold the $5.3 million final judgment.
Thicke and Williams were handed the final verdict after a jury found the two artists ripped off the late Gaye’s 1977 classic. The “Blurred Lines,” hitmakers appealed the verdict in August, claiming the decision, if left to stand, would stifle musical creativity.
That sounds like a great angle but if a judge really thinks about it, then that would mean them taking from Gaye stifled his creative genius as well. If that was the case then Thicke and Pharrell should be able to create their own original sound without ripping off beat already familiar with music lovers. But then that is the trick. Find a sound people already know so it becomes a hit.
If Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams want to proceed with another trial they could end up paying more this time around. They’ve already been found liable for track jacking, so they should think twice before heading back to court.
Here is what Page Six is reporting:
Gaye’s family countered on Thursday that if the appeals court decided to give the two a new trial the trial judge must understand that the copyright on “Got to Give It Up” is not so “thin” as to require “virtual identity” between the original version and an infringing copy.
“Music is imaginative, not strictly factual or functional,” their brief claims — and because of that, “Got to Give It Up” warrants “much broader protection under the copyright laws.”
The Gaye family also contends the court should award it the full cost of its lawyers’ fees on grounds, “a court must choose one and only one ‘prevailing party’ to receive any costs award.”
There is plenty of time before their May 2017 deadline. Though, there is plenty of time to determine who that prevailing party will be. Bottom line Thicke and Williams “Got to Give It Up”!
