(CelebNMusic247) Mary’s Pizza Shack is one of Sonoma’s hidden treasures.
You would think in Wine Country a nice Cabernet or Merlot would be appropriate, but there is nothing like some down homestyle Italian cooking. Mary’s is a staple of Sonoma and was founded by Mary Fazio herself in 1959.
She started off with a little shack in Boyes Hot Springs – There was three tables and a couple of boths. While I grew up in Sonoma, Friday nights were all about Football and Mary’s Pizza. She took the town by storm and made a name for herself.
If you love piping hot pizza, zesty spaghetti with Meatballs, Zeti, Lasagna and more than Mary’s is definitely a hotspot for you to check out after a day of wine tasting or while you get away for the weekend. – Find out more about Mary’s Pizza, one of the best pizza’s in Sonoma…
There are now 18-full-service Mary’s Pizza Italian restaurants to serve you, but its best to come to the original location and see what all the fuss is about.
Mary’s Pizza reigns in the Northern California area, just an hour north of San Francisco and Oakland. You can find this wonderful family hotspot in Sonoma, Napa, Santa Rosa, Solano, Placer, Marin, Shasta and Contra Costa Counties. Click here to find a location near you.
My favorite Mary’s is Boyes Hot Springs and Santa Rosa, but I grew up on Mary’s Pizza and every time I go to Sonoma I must have my favorite, a Mary’s Combination with all the toppings [All the good stuff: salami, pepperoni, cotto salami, mushrooms and sausage].
There are others favorites like; Toto’s Combination [All the good stuff and then some: salami, pepperoni, cotto salami, linguica, sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and olives] – Nopoletana[Authentic Italian pizza pie. Diced fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, and a light layer of mozzarella cheese. (Does not include pizza sauce. Not available as a half-and-half pizza)] – Gnocchi and Giant Meatballs [Soft dumplings of Italian potato pasta tossed with Mary’s authentic old world meat sauce, topped with a giant homemade meatball].
But there are so many great things to eat at Mary’s you just have to Checkout the menu – it’ll make your mouth water for more!
Note: There are two locations in Sonoma – one is downtown at the plaza and features a full bar and Sports. The other location is perfect if you want a more homestyle feel and want to get away from the public eye.
Here is a little but more on Mary’s Pizza Shack:
Mary’s Pizza Shack serves a variety of homemade Italian food including pizza, pasta, sandwiches, soups, salads, bread sticks, appetizers and desserts at moderate prices. The dressings, sauces, dough and soups are all made from scratch using Mary’s original recipes from her original shack. Each item is made to order and there are no heat lamps, frozen dough or canned sauces. All pasta meals include soup or salad, and sourdough bread. Signature items include “baseball sized” meatballs, pesto bread sticks, salads, linguini with clams, gnocchi, homemade soups and desserts and of course the legendary pizza!
All Mary’s Pizza Shack locations have open kitchens, so that customers can watch the chefs make the pizza and pasta (and Mary’s pizza cooks are known to give kids free salami slices). Mary’s Pizza Shack continues Mary’s tradition of having free bread sticks in a basket at the front counter for guests to enjoy.
