Jonathan Groff Talks HBO’s Looking!!!

Yay, Looking is finally back for another season of gay life in San Francisco – Jonathan Groff Talks HBO‘s Looking.

The Pennsylvania native and now Manhattan resident, Jonathan Groff talks about the Looking season 2 since this season is more frank, more intimate and has more sex. The show is all about 3 gay friends trying to live, love and just enjoy life in San Francisco and Groff is down with that.

Groff, 29, who stars as Patrick, a video gamer, in the show that returns with 10 new episodes. He had this to say about the upcoming season of Looking:

“Bring it on. That’s my attitude.”

“The show is very focused on realism and giving an honest picture of gay life in San Francisco.”

The story picks up six months after we last saw Patrick and his BFF’s Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez), who’s out of work and a bit of a mess, and Dom (Murray Bartlett), a waiter and wannabe restaurateur.

Patrick is having an affair with his boss, Kevin (Russell Tovey), and trying to stoke a friendship with his ex, Richie (Raul Castillo), a barber.

Groff approves of both the complexity and the geometry of his character’s situation, revealing:

“It’s complicated.”

“I love that it’s a triangle between three men.”

“You always see a woman torn between two men — like ‘Twilight.’ But three men? You don’t see that.”

Looking is a natural outgrowth of the production’s creative minds, saying:

“There are a lot of gay men working on the show…and there’s a real effort to tell stories in a specific way that feels real.”

Groff credits creators and writers for “really rolling up their sleeves and digging deep. I see the second season of the show as the second year of a relationship. It’s when you get into the real sh–.”

Groff concludes by saying:

“It’s not a show that’s biding its time and treading water – It’s ever-evolving.”

Looking Season 2 premieres on January 11th on HBO at 10PM.
