John Lithgow: Terms of Endearment Will Be a Disappointment

These days everyone thinks that can do a better version of a classic film. Now Paramount Pictures bosses have secured the rights to Terms of Endearment for filmmaker Lee Daniels!!!

Flip and see why John Lithgow believes Terms of Endearment Will Be a Dud…

John Lithgow: Terms of Endearment Will Be a Dissappointment

We don’t think John Lithgow is far off by saying that remaking the 1983 Terms of Endearment is a bad idea, but hey if Paramount Pictures bosses want to waste money, go for it!

According to reports, Oprah Winfrey in negotiations to take on Shirley MACLaine’s role of Aurora Greenway for a African American version of Terms of Endearment.

John Lithgow, who starred in the Oscar-winning film and he thinks it’s one movie that should be left alone. Lithgow told U.S. news channel CNN:

“I’m afraid it’s likely to be a disappointment.  I just saw it recently on an airplane. First time in 30 years that I’d seen it and everything about it was pitch perfect. You change any of those elements and you lose something… Oh God, (I cried) like a drain. It is the most effective tear-jerker ever made.”

After, Lithgow heard that Oprah was in talks to appear in the remake, he flipped the script saying:

“Oh, well, then I’ll eat my words, I’m sure.”

Directed by James L. Brooks, the original film tracked Aurora’s relationship with her daughter Emma, played by Deborah Winger, as they each find their reasons for living and finding joy. Aurora eventually finds love with Garrett Breedlove (Jack Nicholson), a retired astronaut, but the relationship between the mother and daughter comes full circle when Emma is diagnosed with cancer that becomes terminal.

Lithgow played Winger’s lover in the movie.

We will see if Daniels can breath new life into the classic film. We not sure on the odds of this movie being a hit, since we’ve seen this film already.

Personally we would love to see a new novel adapted into a big screen movie and leave some of the classics alone. Haven’t we learned that 9 out of 10 remakes usually SUCK, to put it lightly.

Thoughts?
