Gerard Butler appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America yesterday [October 22] was confronted with footage of him being engulfed by two enormous waves during filming of Chasing Mavericks in California last December.
The How to Train Your Dragon star admitted that he thought he was “going to die” in a surfing accident on the set of his latest movie
Good Morning America showed the horrific incident is shown to the public for the first time.
Butler stated:
“Nobody’s seen this before actually.”
He continued:
“It was like a tsunami coming in. That’s crazy, even when I see it now. Brings back memories.
“I just didn’t come back up really. I was down for a long time and I started to think, ‘Wow, I’m going to die making a movie’.”
Gerard Butler also admitted that he became dependent on prescription drugs following the painful accident and completed a three-week rehab stint back in February.
Chasing Mavericks hits theaters on October 26 in the US and November 2 in the UK.
