If you’ve been paying attention to the superhero movement in theaters over the past couple years, you’ve notice that Marvel has a lock on the game.
Well, the DC Extended Universe, or “DCEU,”, which we are now learned has NEVER been and official term. Warner Bros. and DC entertainment DO NOT use the term like the 4 dozens worthy movie sites have. We have also learned some interesting aspects on what DC Entertainment will be doing for the future of their films. Read on…

CelebNMovies247.com has learned that DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are now rethinking the idea behind their interconnected DC cinematic universe.
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are apparently has made a shift in the DCE and how they will be approaching their upcoming films.
Could this be the course correction the embattled franchise needs?
Instead of following the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, DC and Warner have adopted a new strategy. They want to deemphasize the idea that all of these flicks are occupying the same space via company president Diane Nelson and Chief Operating Officer Geoff Johns.

Nelson stated:
“Our intention, certainly, moving forward is using the continuity to help make sure nothing is diverging in a way that doesn’t make sense, but there’s no insistence upon an overall story line or inter-connectivity in that universe.”
For some reason, Nelson and Johns feel that instead of pushing forward that all stories connect, they would rather make the films more stand-alone movies. They’re using Wonder Woman and a point references since Batman vs Superman, and Suicide Squad were failed attempts to link the films.

Here is what Johns said:
“The movie’s not about another movie. Some of the movies do connect the characters together, like Justice League. But, like with Aquaman, our goal is not to connect Aquaman to every movie.”
It will be interesting to see how the James Wan-directed solo film, which is set to arrive next year will be received by fans.
Note: Nelson and Johns did not have creative control over WB’s DC movies until recently. They watched the first of the DCE and have decided taking a new approach may help these movies. We don’t agree, but we will see. Fans of superhero films love the connections, but that takes skilled writers, directors, producers and studio heads who are extremely familiar with the genre.

Since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was an outright bomb, Nelson and Johns are concentrated on the rest of DC’s properties. Right now, the DCE is moving full steam ahead on Green Lantern, Man of Steel, Cyborg and more, but they are paying attention to revitalizing its comic book sales, and producing critically-praised video games.
Nelson wants DC Entertainment to be a collaborative, director-driven enterprise, stating:
“Moving forward, you’ll see the DC movie universe being a universe, but one that comes from the heart of the filmmaker who’s creating them.”
What Will The DC Movie Universe Look Like In The Future?
At this point the the Studios plans for a separate spin-off movie universe that stands alone and has no connection whatsoever to the other films. Currently, there are three Joker films in the works and one with Harley Quinn. Suicide Squad 2 is being fast tracked so we’re not sure if there will be a Dead Shot spin off or other characters.
Basically, this all sounds like a big cluster fuckery of sorts and that the people overseeing the DCE have no clue on what makes a superhero franchise work. If this does NOT work, the DCE may be and EPIC FAIL in the future.
Here is what DC Entertainment is saying:
“Some of the stuff is true, some of it isn’t true. When we talk about things or we’re making deals for people to develop scripts or whatever, sometimes, things leak; sometimes, things are misreported, and it’s frustrating. Because we do wanna go out there and talk about what our strategy is, and this stuff just muddies the water. There’s a lot of internal conversations going on about, How do we help kind of clean that up a bit?”
Bottom line, instead of forcing connections, they’re going to let each movie do its own thing. We hope that works, and hopefully they keep the same actors in the roles, because nothing is more unappealing when different actors take on the same roles. It becomes confusing and lame.
