Dame Dash

Music mogul Dame Dash opened up on The Real recently to weigh in on the loss on the love of his life Aaliyah and how he could have saved her.

If any of you remember, Dame was the reason Aaliyah was trying to leave a day early to meet up with Dash at a party in Miami that Da Brat was throwing. See what people don’t know is that we lost our friends and our girl Aaliyah on that day as well. So we have inside knowledge on all of it. Aaliyah was doing reshoots for Queen of the Dammed at that time in Australia and readying to finish shooting her scenes for the Matrix, that ended up being cut from the movie. She flew to the Bahamas on a rush trip video shoot because the label changed up which video they wanted to release first. Originally it was More Than A Woman, but instead the changed it to Rock The Boat, so Aaliyah had to go shoot a video.

She wanted to be with Dame on her days off, but it didn’t work out that way and when she decided to book a last minute unauthorized flight to meet up with Dame and friends it ended up fatal. It’s been 15 years since Aaliyah lost her life and Dame is still haunted.

The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records was a guest on The Real this week, and he spoke about how he could have prevented the death of his girlfriend.

Dame Dash had this to say:

“There is no chance that, if I was there, we would have been on that plane, so it would have never happened that way.”

He added:

“If I was there, I would have made sure that that jet that was supposed to be for her – the G-IV – she would have been on that. I wouldn’t have got on that plane, so it probably would have been different.”

Watch the clip from The Real:

Aaliyah died on August 25, 2001 at the age of 22. Reportedly, she and seven others were originally scheduled to fly out the next day on a larger aircraft, but they decided to leave the island earlier than planned on a Cessna 402B.

The airplane crashed shortly after taking off. Subsequent reports found that the plane was 700 pounds over its maximum take-off weight. Traces of cocaine and alcohol were also found in the body of the pilot who died during the crash as well.

The Real airs weekdays at 11 am on Fox.
